On 18 September 2026, KIAP Law Firm jointly with Tsentralny Okrug Law Firm held a business seminar dedicated to comprehensive protection of importers, manufacturers, and retailers of technically sophisticated goods against consumer rights abuse. The event was held in a hybrid format: some participants joined in person at the KIAP Law Firm office, while others attended via an online broadcast.
The event opened with a welcoming address from Andrey Korelskiy, Managing Partner of KIAP Law Firm, followed by introductions of the speakers. Then the participants proceeded to the two main sessions.
The first session focused on civil law tools for business protection and was delivered by the team of Tsentralny Okrug Law Firm. The speakers reviewed the practice of applying the Unified Rules for the Protection of Consumers’ Rights of the Union State in Russia in 2025-2026, assessed the implications of amendments to the Law on the Protection of Consumers’ Rights, and analysed how the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation treats cases where a product cannot be used for more than 30 days. Special attention was given to why the key battle in consumer disputes revolves around expert examination.
Stanislav Valezhnikov, Managing Partner of Tsentralny Okrug Law Firm, acted as moderator and key speaker for the first session. The following speakers also shared their experience in countering consumer extremism in the civil law sphere:
- Renata Shangareeva, MAZ Moskvich JSC;
- Ekaterina Gulyakova, TENET RUS LLC;
- Grigory Taushkanov, Business Car Group of Companies;
- Ilya Shlykov, Great Wall Motor Rus;
- Igor Vasilchenko, M.Video‑Eldorado.
The second session, covering criminal law tools for business protection, was moderated by Dmitry Grigoriadi, Partner and Head of the Criminal Practice at KIAP Law Firm. During the discussion, experts examined the circumstances in which consumer extremism ceases to be a civil dispute and becomes a crime, the criteria determining the transition to a criminal case, and how to properly prepare for filing a report with the police and build effective interaction with law enforcement agencies. The session also addressed the criminal law consequences for companies themselves in cases of consumer rights violations.
Notable case studies on consumer extremism in the criminal law sphere were presented by:
- Nikolay Stepanov, AGR Holding;
- Vladimir Kharazov, Motorinvest.
Participants highlighted the high level of organisation of the event and the highly valuable concentration of expertise on the topic of consumer extremism. Following the professional discussion, it was proposed to create a closed Telegram chat — a unified space for the speakers and participants of the event. The chat continues to serve as a platform for discussing cases related to consumer extremism, exchanging personal experience, and sharing best practices.
If you would like to join the chat, please send your Telegram username at info@kiaplaw.ru, and we will be happy to add you.
On behalf of KIAP Law Firm and Tsentralny Okrug Law Firm, we thank all participants for joining the discussion — it was your active engagement that made the event so dynamic, valuable, and interesting. We extend special thanks to our speakers for their insightful presentations, willingness to share practical experience, and answers to participants’ questions. We look forward to continuing the discussion and will be glad to see you at our future events.
