KIAP, Attorneys at Law, has signed a sponsorship contract with the family of nine-year-old chess prodigy Roman Shogdzhiev.
The contract, announced 5 November 2024, will help to finance Roman’s education, coaching and participation in international tournaments, enabling him to make the most of a remarkable chess talent.
At an age still short of double figures, Roman Shogdzhiev is already a well-known and titled chess player, having notched up victories over several adult grandmasters. He has won Russian and international chess championships and prizes in various age categories, and is a favourite to take prizes at the World Championships, which are to be held in Italy in November 2024.
“Back in 2014, I met Magnus Carlsen in Boston at a reception with a simultaneous chess session in the Harvard Library, hosted by the Norwegian law firm Simonsen Vogt Wiig as part of the high-profile IBA lawyers conference. Simonsen Vogt Wiig were among the first to believe in Magnus’ genius and became the title sponsor of the greatest chess player in history before he was 10 years old. We believe that Roman, like Magnus, has a great chess future ahead of him. I am confident that our support will help him to make the most of his chess talent on the world stage”, – said Andrey Korelskiy, Managing Partner of KIAP, Attorneys at Law.
Roman’s parents, Savr and Saglara Shogdzhiev, said: “We are grateful to KIAP and personally to Andrey Korelskiy for their support in developing our son’s talent and for the new opportunities that such support will offer. We know for sure that we will be able to achieve more working together as Roman’s team”.
The contract is initially for one year, extendable by agreement between the parties.
